Petting a cat is not as easy as it seems. Litter box accidents with cats | Good reads

What to do with trash can accidents? There is probably nothing more frustrating for cat owners than litter box accidents.

In fact, habitual litter box accidents are the number one reason cat owners put their cats in animal shelters. When your cat refuses to use the litter box, there is usually a very good reason. Before you get upset about your cat not being able to get to the litter box, here are some common causes of this problem.

Litter box- One of the main reasons why a cat starts to refuse to use the toilet is because its own toilet is dirty. Many cats are extremely picky about the condition of their litter box, while others will use it regardless of how full it looks. If your cat has a litter box accident, the first place you should check is the litter box. Some pets prefer to have their litter box cleaned after each use. Although it is time consuming for you, it can be a simple solution to this problem. You should start a daily routine of cleaning your cat's box and you may find that this solves your problem. Another common litter-related problem is not having enough litter for the number of cats you have. For example, if you have four cats at home and you should have at least one cat litter. Cats like their own space, and this is especially true when it comes to their litter. In fact, many vets recommend that even if you only have one cat, you should have at least two litter boxes.

Also, when it comes to crate accidents, look at the type of litter you are using and the size and shape of the crate. If you have a tray without a lid, your cat might feel safer in a closed box. If you have an older cat or a small kitten, your cat may have trouble getting in and out of a closed box. Keep a close eye on your cat when she uses the litter box. If you find this, they have trouble getting in and out of the crate and consider getting another crate. Also look at the type of litter you are using. Your cat may be extremely picky about the smell or texture of the litter. Many people preferred to use garbage disposals; however, many cats do not use this type of litter because it sticks to their paws. You may also find that the litter you are using creates a lot of dust that is uncomfortable for your cat.

Health problems- Your cat may refuse to use the litter box due to health issues. If you've tried all of the above advice and nothing seems to be working, then it's time to see your vet. Cats with bladder problems, urinary tract infections, kidney failure and diabetes are more prone to litter accidents than healthy cats. You need to take your cat to the vet and have a thorough health checkup done to determine if your cat is suffering from any medical conditions. In this case, your vet can prescribe medication to help your cat.

Your cat's habit and territory- If your cat has been sick or has stopped using the litter box for any reason, you may find that your cat reverts to its old ways out of habit. It is extremely important that if your cat has an accident in the litter box, you thoroughly clean the area to get rid of any odors. Additionally, your cat may not have stopped using the litter box at all, but instead your cat is marking its territory. This is especially common in multi-cat households or when you bring a new pet into the home. This is also more common in men than women. Even cats that are neutered can mark their territory by spraying urine.

When you figure out why your cat is having litter accidents, you can find a solution. It takes time and patience; however, it is much more beneficial than getting rid of your cat.
